WellComm – Speech & Language Toolkit

WellComm is a speech and language toolkit for children aged 6 months-6 years, that we will be using in the nursery to help to support children that may require it.

It helps practitioners to understand children’s current level of speech and language and then provides a range of customised intervention activities to help support their language development, ensuring every child gets the support they need. With 1 in 10 children under 5 years of age experiencing some degree of difficulty in learning language and communication skills, early identification is crucial.

Our Deputy Manager and Senco (Special Educational Needs Coortinator) Lisa completed the training and has then passed her knowledge on to all of the staff in the nursery during an in-house training day. Through our observations and the childrens learning journeys we monitor the children closely and if the staff have any concerns regarding speech and language the toolkit will come into practice to help to give practitioners a clearer picture of any help that is needed. Lisa will work as a support to all staff, children and parents/carers during the process.

Working closely and collaboratively with parents is critical to the success of WellComm; therefore, planned Interventions in the form of fun activities will be shared with you as parents and can be carried out at home.

Before completing the toolkit paperwork permission will be sought from parents/carers on the relevent consent form. If you have any questions regarding WellComm then please call in to see Lisa or email any queries to her at [email protected]
