Stepping back in time to the age of the Dinosaurs!
This week 3-4’s have been stepping back in time to the age of the dinosaurs.
Our letter for the week was – ‘d’ – around the dinosaur bottom, up his tall neck and back down to his feet!
We travelled to the Ice Age I our time machine and as palaeontologists we explored the icy environment and commented on new and wondrous discoveries.
We realised that we had to travel further back in time and came across the dinosaurs. We went on a dinosaur hunt and discovered a few of our favourites. When we returned as palaeontologists we studied bones – placing then in size order, explored a swampy environment, measured how tall and long dinosaurs were and drew pictures of our dinosaurs and their skeletons.
The children have loved playing bingo over the last few weeks and asked if could play so we played a dinosaur phonic bingo game. The children also placed objects on the correct initial sound on the spikes of a stegosaurus.
The children were surprised to see a dinosaur had left us an egg to look after. They put it in water and we are recording every day any changes that we observe. The following day in nursery we discovered a dinosaur skull and 3 more eggs, – much to the childrens delight!
Finally, we played some dinosaur games, created our own dinosaur moves to music, participated in dinosaur yoga and learnt some new vocabulary – carnivore, herbivore, omnivore and palaeontologists.
