Join the letter train – Choo-Choo!!
Over the last couple of weeks we have done a variety of different activities ranging from phonic games, science, technology and crafts.
Our new letter has been ‘w’ – down the worm, uptake worm, down the worm and up the worm.
W activities have included looking at the weather and matching pictures of clothing to the correct weather, having a go at 3 letter words like cat, mat, pig using the letters that we have learnt.
We have also done water and wind experiments finding out that different levels of water in bottles can make different sounds, how water dilutes things and how condensation happens. The children explored how they could move objects with a fan that they had made. We also enjoyed playing a pompom race game.
Another week we went through all our letters and thought of activities to go with them. For example; a – we made clay aliens, s – cutting out long snakes, d – digging for dinosaur bones, w – looking at old and new wedding photos, b – balancing cups to make towers, g- for gardening in our tuff spot and t – for exploring technology in the office. The children made a train and travelled on it to the different letter activities.
This week we have learnt the letter ‘h’ sound – down the horse to his hooves and jump over his back. Some of our ‘h’ activities have included looking at lamb’s hearts and discovering what job our hearts do and how important it is to exercise and eat healthily.
We have also looked at the hexagons and discovered that they have 6 sides and 6 angles and that bees make hexagon shapes in their hives. We also talked about our homes and looked at animal habitats. We talked about hedgehogs and played a game of answering questions to win prickles! we also made hedgehog bread rolls which were delicious.
