Happy New Year from Transition and Pre-school
Happy New Year from all of us in 3-4’s. We would like to welcome the new children that have just joined us and a new member of staff called Melanie (Mel) who is a qualified teacher and is settling in to Smarties life well.
We are looking forward to the year ahead and to our new ‘Mystery Readers’ time.
We have two parents coming in over the next two weeks to read a story to the children. This will encourage language and imagination and will help the children become more confident in interacting with new people whilst in a safe environment.
If any of our parents, grandparents or siblings are free at anytime and would like to come become our next mystery reader, please speak to one of the staff in 3-4’s.
The children found worms last week which led us to read ‘Superworm‘ by Julia Donaldson. The children were really interested and wanted to make their own worms, which we did using play dough and salt dough with some cheerios for decoration. The children in the transition group enjoyed these activities too but also enjoyed threading wiggly worm pipe cleaners through small holes, developing their concentration and fine motor skills. They then wanted to know about caterpillars so chose the ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar‘ story which they will carry on exploring next week.
We also enjoyed a walk down the lane where we met Stanley the puppy and saw the pony and donkey. Heather told the story of the Magic Faraway Tree as the children explored a big tree. The story is about a tree that has different lands at the top each time that you climb it. This started a discussion and the children imagination took them to robot land, sweetie land, the land of giants and the land of rainbows & unicorns. We then began to make up stories together.
