Jack and the Beanstalk
This week began with a child bringing in a book from a castle visit. This led to us talking about who lived/lives in a castle and the children wanting to make crowns and shields, so they could role play at being Kings, Queens, Princesses or Knights.
We read the story of Jack and the beanstalk and decided to make the giants castle upstairs with the children painting it using our foam bricks. Other activities we did were to count the giants coins, make a harp using a threading technique and making a beanstalk by rolling the dice and finding that number of leaves to stick on a vine. The children also made the queen’s crowns by rolling the dice to find the jewels for her crown.
The children were very interested in the our homegrown runner beans and were very excited to find and count the beans inside.
Finally we have learnt 2 new letters ‘c’ and ‘k’.
the rhyme for c is; ‘curly round the caterpillar’ and k is; ‘go down the kangaroo, then draw its tail and now its leg.
