Dinosaur fun continued……….
The children have shown so much interest in learning about dinosaurs that they wanted it to continue for another week. Our letter of the week was ‘v’ for volcano.
The children continued to observe the changes to their dinosaur eggs and were very excited to see the heads of 3 of them popping out and the body of another emerging.
We have also made up our own dinosaur yoga story, with the children creating poses of dinosaur, mountain, tree and boat. Staff used the following link for ideas https://www.kidsyogastories.com/dinosaur-yoga/ – great for if you want to try it at home too!
We looked at volcanoes and did an experiment to show how a volcano erupts and this was followed the next day using a candle and melting wax to show how, like larva, when it cools wax goes hard and heather explain that larva forms rock. We talked about how to be safe around matches and we observed how a match went black. We found that the cooled matches made marks on paper and learnt that this was like charcoal from a fire which people used to write with.
We have also looked at vegetables and made our own vegetable dish for the herbivores using knives and peelers. We have also started doing keep fit exercises every morning to get our minds and bodies active.
The children were also amazing with some problem solving activities (STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Their challenge was to get the dinosaurs from one island to another without touching the blue floor (sea). All they could use were stepping stones or blocks.
Finally, to name a few of our favourite activities, – we have also been enjoying volcano bingo, dinosaur dice games , letter writing and collecting the correct lettered velociraptor’s egg!!
